Who the STIHL FSA 80 Cordless Brushcutter – AK System is for
The FSA 80 is a confident choice for homeowners who want a cordless brushcutter that feels robust yet easy to handle for demanding garden tasks. If your routine includes clearing tall grass and weeds, edging longer runs, and switching between line and blade work, this model’s bike handle, included harness, and tool compatibility offer reassuring control and versatility.
It’s especially appealing if you value low sound levels for neighbourhood-friendly mowing and trimming, or if you already use AK System batteries and want to expand your cordless lineup. The two-level speed control is ideal when you want to extend runtime for light trimming or call on stronger cutting power for thicker growth. For organisers and tech‑minded users, Smart Connector compatibility adds effortless hour tracking and maintenance visibility through STIHL connected.
Key features
The FSA 80 is built around a high‑efficiency brushless EC motor that delivers steady output with intelligent electronics. Power remains consistent as the battery discharges, so cutting performance feels predictable from start to finish. Two speed levels on the control handle let you prioritise runtime in Eco mode or switch to higher speed for tougher vegetation.
Comfort and control are core to the design. The ergonomic bike handle spreads the load across both arms for smooth, sweeping cuts in tall grass. Adjustment is tool‑free via a central clamp, so you can quickly set the right angle and height. For storage and transport, the handle rotates 90 degrees, and an integrated carrying ring makes safe hanging simple. A basic harness is supplied to enhance balance and reduce fatigue over longer sessions.
Out of the box, the FSA 80 comes with the GrassCut 230‑2 metal blade for confident clearing. When you need different finishes, it can also be fitted with compatible mowing heads such as AutoCut, TrimCut, DuroCut, and PolyCut, giving you one tool for multiple garden jobs. As part of the AK System, it runs on 36 V batteries, with the AK 30 recommended for a strong mix of power and runtime.
For users who like connected tools, adding a Smart Connector enables integration into STIHL connected, recording operating hours and helping you stay on top of maintenance so the brushcutter is always ready to go.

STIHL FSA 80 Cordless Brushcutter – AK System vs similar models
Against smaller AK System grass trimmers, the FSA 80 stands out with its bike handle and blade‑ready setup, giving you wider, steadier sweeps and confident control in taller growth. The two‑level speed control and constant power feel add an intuitive balance of runtime and cutting force, while the included harness supports longer tasks.
Compared with higher‑tier professional brushcutters in other battery platforms, the FSA 80 keeps the convenience of AK System batteries many homeowners already own, along with low operating noise for residential use. Its compatibility with multiple mowing heads and Smart Connector makes it a versatile step‑up choice when you want more capability than a compact trimmer, without moving into a different battery ecosystem.
Usage tips
– Match the speed to the task: use Eco mode for edging and lighter trimming to extend runtime, then switch to full speed for thicker patches.
– Choose the right cutting tool: line heads for precise trimming; the supplied GrassCut 230‑2 blade for stubborn grass and weeds.
– Adjust ergonomics before you start: set the bike handle height and angle, and fit the basic harness so the tool balances comfortably.
– Pre‑soak mowing line: keep line in water for 12–24 hours before use to improve flexibility and reduce breakage.
– Care for wildlife: scan long grass and hedgerows for small animals or nesting birds before cutting.
– Store smart: rotate the handle 90° for transport and hang the tool from the carrying ring for compact storage.
– Battery best practice: keep batteries within recommended temperature ranges and top them up before long sessions for consistent results.

With other brands of battery tools, the performance usually decreases during work as the battery discharges. This is not the case with STIHL cordless power tools with CONSTANT POWER. Thanks to the intelligent electronics, your STIHL power tool works with consistently high power.
You can change the power of your device thanks to 2 different power levels. At level 1, you reduce the power (Eco mode) and extend the battery life. Level 2 allows you to call up full power. This means that you can either work particularly energy-efficiently or use all the power of the device when you need it.
The power tool has an integrated carrying ring. This allows you to store your power tool safely and compactly.
You can individually adjust the ergonomic bike handle using the central clamping device. Thanks to the tool-free handle adjustment, you do not need any tools for this. The bike handle can be rotated 90 degrees for transport and space-saving storage.
Thanks to its compact design, low weight and high efficiency, the EC engine enables you to work in an energy efficient manner. This engine also has a long service life.
The power tool is compatible with the Smart Connector, meaning it can be integrated into the STIHL connected system. Once you have attached a Smart Connector to the power tool, after one-time commissioning it will record the power tool’s operating hours and transmit them to the STIHL connected App via Bluetooth. In addition to displaying the operational time, the app also provides an overview of all necessary maintenance, ensuring that you do not overlook important upkeep and that your power tool is always in a ready-to-use condition.
