Who the STIHL FSA 70 Cordless Brushcutter – AK System is for
The FSA 70 is an excellent fit for homeowners and garden enthusiasts who want cordless convenience with confident cutting performance. It’s ideal for tackling tough mowing, trimming and clearing across lawns, borders and overgrown areas while maintaining low noise for neighbourhood-friendly use. The quick-adjust loop handle supports comfortable control on slopes, around trees and across uneven ground, and the tool-free mowing head system is perfect for anyone who values rapid setup and minimal downtime. It also suits users invested in the AK battery platform who want extended runtimes and a larger cutting circle for efficient coverage.
Key features
The FSA 70 is built around a robust brushless EC motor that delivers smooth, efficient power. Intelligent electronics provide constant performance as the battery discharges, so cutting feels consistent from start to finish. Two selectable speed levels on the control handle make it simple to match output to the task: use the energy-saving Eco mode for edging and lighter trimming, or switch to full speed for thicker grass and denser growth.
Included is the AutoCut C 12-2 line head, compatible with 2.
0 mm and 2.
4 mm line. STIHL’s Rapid Click System lets you install or remove the head in seconds without tools—press to release, click to secure. Rewinding new line is quick thanks to the large twist dial, whether you do it on the tool or with the head removed. For versatile cutting beyond line work, the brushcutter also accepts the PolyCut 12-2 head with replaceable plastic blades (sold separately), which also snaps into place tool-free.
Ergonomics are a strong point. The wraparound loop handle adjusts to your height without tools, encouraging an upright stance and precise guidance. An anti-vibration system reduces felt vibration at the grips for more pleasant work over longer sessions. Speed adjustment is integrated into the control handle, so you can change modes on the fly without breaking rhythm. Practical touches include an integrated carrying ring for tidy storage and compatibility with the Smart Connector for integration into the STIHL connected app ecosystem, which can log operating hours and help you stay on top of maintenance.
Runtime is impressive within the AK System. With an AK 20 battery, expect a working window of approximately 25–45 minutes using the AutoCut head, and around 50–90 minutes with the PolyCut head—ample for most garden sessions, with the option to scale up further using larger AK batteries.

STIHL FSA 70 Cordless Brushcutter – AK System vs similar models
Compared with a lighter-duty AK System trimmer such as the STIHL FSA 57, the FSA 70 offers a larger 380 mm cutting circle, a brushless EC motor with constant power, and two speed levels. This brings more reach and cutting authority for thicker grass while preserving the same battery platform convenience and low-noise operation. If you prefer the most compact, featherweight feel for quick tidy-ups, a smaller AK model may suit that style; choose the FSA 70 when you want added performance and tool-free head versatility in the same easy-to-use format.
Against higher-tier professional models from the brand’s range, the FSA 70 prioritises homeowner-friendly portability and AK battery flexibility, while still providing excellent runtime potential—especially with the PolyCut head and larger AK batteries. It’s a balanced choice for gardens that demand more than basic trimming without stepping into heavier, trade-focused equipment.
Usage tips
- Select Eco mode for edging and general trimming; switch to full speed for dense or taller growth to maintain clean cuts.
- Soak your trimmer line in water for 12–24 hours before use to boost flexibility and reduce breakage.
- Use the Rapid Click button to remove the head for quick rewinds; the twist dial makes winding line fast and tidy.
- Adjust the loop handle to your height for an upright posture and precise control around trees, beds and slopes.
- Check the work area for wildlife before mowing long grass, especially nesting birds and small animals.
- Leverage the integrated carrying ring for safe, compact storage between sessions.
- Attach a Smart Connector to log operating hours and keep maintenance on schedule through the connected app.

With other brands of battery tools, the performance usually decreases during work as the battery discharges. This is not the case with STIHL cordless power tools with CONSTANT POWER. Thanks to the intelligent electronics, your STIHL power tool works with consistently high power.
With the intuitive Rapid Click System, you just need to press a button: the AutoCut line mowing head is immediately in your hand, which makes winding it even easier. When using the PolyCut mowing head, the plastic blades can also be changed quickly and easily by hand. Then, with just a “click”, the mowing head is securely remounted and the brushcutter is ready to start.
Thanks to the large orange disc handle, the mowing head can be comfortably wound without tools – either directly on the power tool, or after removal with the push of a button, in which case the mowing line can simply be wound on in your hand.
The wraparound handle can be quickly and easily adjusted without tools for an ergonomic working position adapted to your height. In addition, the optimised geometry of the wraparound handle supports flexible working with plenty of freedom to manoeuvre and precise guidance of your power tool.
Quickly and conveniently adjust the speed of your power tool to the respective work situation. Doing so reduces energy consumption at low speeds, and in this way extends the battery runtime. The practical control handle with speed control allows you to make the relevant adjustment without having to change your grip or pause work.
You can change the power of your device thanks to 2 different power levels. At level 1, you reduce the power (Eco mode) and extend the battery life. Level 2 allows you to call up full power. This means that you can either work particularly energy-efficiently or use all the power of the device when you need it.
The power tool has an integrated carrying ring. This allows you to store your power tool safely and compactly.
The power tool is compatible with the Smart Connector, meaning it can be integrated into the STIHL connected system. Once you have attached a Smart Connector to the power tool, after one-time commissioning it will record the power tool’s operating hours and transmit them to the STIHL connected App via Bluetooth. In addition to displaying the operational time, the app also provides an overview of all necessary maintenance, ensuring that you do not overlook important upkeep and that your power tool is always in a ready-to-use condition.
Vibrations can occur when you put your power tools through their paces, and these are particularly noticeable in the grip area. The buffer and spring elements of the STIHL anti-vibration system reduce the transmission of vibrations to the handle area and therefore to your body. The result is that your power tool is more comfortable to hold and your work is much less tiring.
