The Makita DCS3501 has been tested in extended trials conducted by amateur and professional chainsaw operators to test just how this easy start, compact chainsaw performs under "real-life" conditions, the outcome of the tests is unequivocal; the new DCS3501 compact saw exhibits ideal, well balanced handling characteristics, is easy to use and extremely user friendly on all counts. The test operators also found both the design and build quality outstanding with ease of maintenance and excellent starting.
The easy-start system on the DCS3501 and DCS4301 has been developed, and uses spring pressure to help overcome the compression resistance. 3 or 4 pumps on the fuel primer fills the carburetor with fuel, and the combination switch is moved to its upper position for both half throttle & choke functions. The side mounted air intake has been designed to aid the feed of fresh clean air into the engine, keeping unwanted sawdust out.
The DCS3501 & DCS4301 are both fitted with a new safety feature; the "Touch & Stop System" a light dab on the combination switch is enough to stop the engine instantly in any situation, the switch will automatically return to the starting position.
The lightweight free revving & high torque engine is constructed from magnesium castings and features a vertical 6-port die cast cylinder. The built in damping system uses four heavy duty steel springs to absorb the vibrations that would otherwise be transmitted directly to the operator through the chainsaws handles, this system allows for longer sustained use with very low vibration levels felt by the operator.

Bristling with premium product features normally only found on the more expensive saws, the Makita DCS3501 "Compact Class" saws feature easy starting, single switch choke, on/off safety control, ultra-low vibration rating and long service, easy maintenance reliability.
The new Makita easy-start system provides automatic inertia drive assistance created by a cam wound spring inside the cord reel that engages when the cord is tensed against the compression stroke of the engine. The lightest pull load on the cord when the engine flywheel is at standstill will activate the spring assistance and speed the crank through the compression stroke and ignition sequence into the combustion cycle.
